Learning 2.008 Shanghai Conference

By Justin Medved

Over the past 5 years I have been actively involved in implementing, developing and leading interactive
white board programs at several different schools. As a teacher and trainer I have taught with this new tool
and have come to develop a set of best practices that have enabled staff and students to deepen the teaching
and learning process. This session will be a synthesis of my experiences and hopefully offer some helpful
information to teachers and coordinators who are thinking about implementing interactive white boards
into their classrooms This session will explore how Intern active whiteboards can enhance: Teaching
Student Learning Staff Collaboration Staff Development Instructional Practices Classroom Managment

Welcome everyone!

Please post your questions here during the presentation and I will stop at a few different time to take them up.
What years were you at AIS in Cairo?
What are the really good websites with whiteboard collaboration stuff?
I'm working on a site containing links to resources and information about SmartBoards/whiteboards, SmartBoard Resources
Do your teachers use whiteboard/dry erase markers on their SmartBoards?
Cannot... the smartboard comes with digital markers. Whiteboard markers will ruin the surface... it uses "digital ink"
What is the greatest weakness of the smartboards? What would you change if you could change anything?
Can the files be opened and modified by a user who does not have "notebook" software?
Do you have a particular favourite website for notebook file sharing?
How do you trade and pass around files to users (like students at home) who don't have SmartBoard software on their computers? Is there a preferred file format for exporting?
I save important pieces of information from our class discussions and smartboard notes as picture files and upload them to the class wiki. Students without smartboard software will not be able to open the exact files that you've created for and used in class...
Have you found any problems using Mac's with these boards? Or is it more PC friendly?
