After EduBloggerCon

Picture taken by Ewan McIntosh. Click to Enlarge EduBloggerCon is over and NECC is all around us.  Yesterday’s amazing talk-fest was a huge success, by my reckoning — and to no small degree, thanks to the work and skill of Steve Hargadon.  To me, I had a sesne, from the very beginning, there this day [...]

Live Blogging EduBloggerCon

I’m trying CoverItLive to blog the EduBloggerCon. Not sure how well this will work, and I may just dump it 10 minutes into the event. We’ll see. We’re all Beta — aren’t we? Technorati Tags: warlick education technology edubloggercon ebc08

Where’s the Line

Oddly, as I searched Flickr for creative commons licensed photos with 'coding' in the title, a large portion of them involved a laptop computer along side a desert plate with a chunky brownie or a generous slice of pie. There’s a famous story about a student who, when assigned to write a report about a topic, [...]

Words of NECC

I’ve been in San Antonio for almost a two hours now, mostly walking out to stock up on diet pepsis for my room, and watching CNN (pretty rare for me).  In a few minutes, I’ll go out to a place called Boudros’ for dinner with a bunch of folks — don’t recall who — hope [...]

Before Striking Out for NECC

It’s not quite 6:00 AM EST, and I’ve been up for a couple of hours, worrying over one of the presentations I’ll be doing at NECC.  I’m not nearly as busy with presentations this year as last, and won’t know until tomorrow if either of the EduBloggerCon sessions I suggested will fly.  The one session [...]

Profile

School:
Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S.A.
Position:
I'm a husband, father, walker, reader, blogger, author, programmer, composer, public speaker, and 30+ year educator. I grew up in a three-stoplight mill town in western North Carolina in the middle of the 20th century. I have seen, in my life, more change from humanity's tenacious desire to learn and create than any generation before me. I want my children to be better prepared to adapt and prosper in this time of rapid change.

Highlight

I've worked with many independent and international schools and I am always energized by the conversations of experienced, confident, and adventurous educators.

We find ourselves, at this point in history, on a great frontier -- a frontier of change and opportunity. Are we going to fear what looks like wilderness or explore, blaze trail, and find ways to solve problems and accomplish goals we could never achieve before -- to dramatically improve the human condition and the condition of our home.

It’s a good time to be teaching about Learning 2.0

I suspect that it has been traditionally believed that the last time you'd want to do staff development was May and early June, just after the school year is over (Northern Hemisphere). Teachers just aren't ready for it. The tests are behind them, the students are behind them, and vacation is just a f… Continue

Spanning the Centuries

It's really part of what education is about, spanning not only the intersecting aspects of life today, what we need about who we are, where we are, why we are, and what we do with all of it. But education is also about help children find their place in the when. As a former history teacher, I revel in telling the stories of our present made from our past. But today, I s… Continue

My picture's up, and flight arrangements are being made, as I type. I'm as happy as a flee on a hound dog.
