Profile Information

School:
The Landmark Project -- Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S.A.
Position:
My Last Trip to Shanghai
I'm a husband, father, walker, reader, blogger, author, programmer, composer, public speaker, and 30+ year educator. I grew up in a three-stoplight mill town in western North Carolina in the middle of the 20th century. I have seen, in my life, more change from humanity's tenacious desire to learn and create than any generation before me. I want my children to be better prepared to adapt and prosper in this time of rapid change.

Highlight

I've worked with many independent and international schools and I am always energized by the conversations of experienced, confident, and adventurous educators.

We find ourselves, at this point in history, on a great frontier -- a frontier of change and opportunity. Are we going to fear what looks like wilderness or explore, blaze trail, and find ways to solve problems and accomplish goals we could never achieve before -- to dramatically improve the human condition and the condition of our home.

The two invited speakers this time were myself, Suriawang, and Scottish educator, Ewan McIntosh (Learning Loon). The first bit of disappointing news was that Marco Tor… Continue

Are You Future-Ready

I just read and responded to a discussion post made by Mlambert, based on a set of driving questions that Jeff Utecht posted somewhere much earlier. The questions are:

  1. How does the future catch you?

  2. If we didn’t have the schools we have today, would we create the schools we have today?

  3. How as educators can we learn to be action-oriented, renounce the

The Questions I wasn't Asked at International Island

Some of you are aware that yesterday was the first Learning 2.008 Pre-conference event, a Second Life™ virtual gathering of presenters and presentees. On the stage, which was actually a low riser, were myself (Suriawang), Chris Smith (Shamblesguru), Alan Levine, (CDB Barkley), and David Gann (Sitirios). After a while, Jeff Utecht (Utes) joined us. It… Continue

My picture's up, and flight arrangements are being made, as I type. I'm as happy as a flee on a hound dog.
