Virtual Shanghai

I can't tell you how disappointed I was when my Dr. told me my illness would not allow me to fly to Shanghai and join the conference. I had been planning for months, obtained my Visa, even bought surprises I had planned on sharing with Jeff Utecht and other friends when I arrived. Jenny Luca and I had even made plans to finish our planning for the Australian branch of the… Continue

Making an Unconference Work for You...

How many times have you sat in a conference presentation or inservice feeling like you were not getting your needs met? How often have you wished during a presentation you could ask a question, get clarification, make a comment or get other expert feedback about the topic being discussed- but the format just didn't support that kind of interaction?

Well… Continue

I am a Virginia-boy, born in D.C., but I grew up overseas (Dad in the Foreign Service), so coicidentally, David, I attended HKIS for 5.5 half years (two different times). So W&M just brought me back to VA. Love the buckets of beer and oysters at Barret's and also played some beach volleyball in the 'Burg and at the Beach....unbelievably small world...or "tiny" world as we flatten it out.

Looking forward to meeting you at the conference. I like the quote - one of the greatest mysteries in education is why it is taking so long for us to change our ways and break out of the 19th century mould. I fear that that the kids have already left us so to speak and our classrooms are 'empty'.

I was a kid in Moyock and spent my summers on the beach in Va. I moved to Ga. Came back in 1997 worked for the Va Bch schools as a teacher and district administrator. Been teaching at W&M since 2004 as an adjunct (instructional technology). Mark Hofer and Judy Harris are both great! I also have a digital consulting business and get to be involved with incredible reform work around the states and abroad.

I look forward to meeting you all.

We definitely have a Virginia and W & M connection going here. I have my counseling degree from W & M and worked at Barett's (spelling) seafood restaurant after college. Mark Hofer is my buddy from our days at the Curry School together. And I spent my twenties on 78th street playing beach volleyball wishing I had a house there instead of Newport News...

So Sheryl and Dennis, are you from Virginia as well or did W & M bring you to the Commonwealth?

I need to catch up with the Learning 2.0 conference as we just moved from Hong Kong to Taiwan. The last painting was hung in our apartment yesterday and we will be getting our phone line soon so I can reconnect.

Hi Sheryl,

Looking forward to seeing you in Shanghai.

Wow! I just tool a look at the overview of the ASSET program!
The middle school where I've worked for the past 24 years has sifted from middle class population to an at risk population (89% free/reduced lunch, 90% minority, 40 % English as Second Language). We have some of the hardest working teachers and students that you could imagine but we struggle to achieve and that creates tremendous problems in retaining teachers long enough to make progress. Chapel Hill is very lucky to have an opportunity like your program.

Hi, thanks for inviting me as your friend. I believe that it will be a great opportunity to meet people like you who are really putting technology to the good use. Looking forward to seeing you in Shanghai.
