Hello,
I am the technology integration coordinator at the Walker School in Atlanta, GA. I am looking for secondary teachers who would be interested in having their students participate in an interdisciplinary project to construct a wiki site and layer in Google Earth on human migrations around the globe. Many of the characters in the books we will be reading for this project are between the ages of 12 and 21 and would therefore, I believe, appeal to high school students. One book you might be in…

I think it must have been a prodigious effort to have recorded all these sessions and they are much appreciated, but I was a little frustated when I went to the Google Doc that lists the recordings, hoping to find a proper podcast with RSS feed and just download them to my iRiver (the recordings were made by Chinese Podcast
http://chinesepod.com/, but on that site, can't find them either).
In order that I can reference these recordings more easily I created…

Hello Everyone,
WiZiQ invites Shanghai 2.008 Members to give a public session on WiZiQ at a scheduled time of your choice. Because Shanghai 2.008 and its members are active in online education, giving a WiZiQ public session is an excellent way to get the word out on your organization to the education community especially in your areas of interest and expertise.

Sorry to have to bug people via the ning but the vendor hall was not very successful at the conference.
A good number of schools in the Asian region already use
Atomic Learning to support a more "democratic" learning mode where students have access to tutorials on every piece of software imaginable. This allows a teacher to set a task and focus on the learning outcomes knowing that students who do not know how to embed their video on their blog page o…

Learn2.008 conference – a true technological conference
This was a true technology conference, a feature I really liked.
Evidenced by:-
- A ning set up for all communication and connecting. Registration was done via the ning and conference fees paid online. Each conference attendee has their own page, enabling them to blog, add images or videos Allows those who were unable to attend, to access notes etc.
- Paperless conference, no carry bags etc Pertinent information was transferred to a usb 2…

It is Tuesday. I just read 'everyone's blog posts' on my google reader. That is one concrete thing I've done since the conference ended (actual it was done during the conference). I have just relocated to Shanghai and had not re-set up my RSS reader -- realized during the conference that this was a mistake ("reduce your clicks' said Jeff: I immediately realized how much time I had been wasting logging in to here and there). Once during an ELL conference many years ago a visiting presenter said s…

I think these pictures tell the story better than I can. I always have this weird feeling when the conference is over. Part of me is so relieved that it's over and another part of me never wanted it to end. I was tired, running on pure adrenalin by the end of it but so excited to see educators learning together and from each other.
On Thursday night I challenged the participants to walk away f…

Only a few hours left until I begin the long haul out of Shanghai back to North America. This has been an excellent trip for so many reasons. I have had gracious, generous hosts and have had the opportunity to meet fascinating people as individuals, hearing some of their stories. I still need some time to think about the conference itself, that will come soon. But as I'm getting ready to leave this place, I wonder about some of the things I've seen here.
Shanghai is a city on the move. It is th…

Clarence Fisher led this session and demonstrated many of the tools that he uses in his classroom. Here are my notes on this session
Session 12 with Clarence Fisher
Some people asked about literacy. Monday 9am what is going on and what should we start with. What does it look like.
All this stuff is like pulling a lot of pieces together
Could start with a logo,
Some schools have a lot of things in one place. Difficult to break out of that box. So, Clarence brings all these things together himsel…

A room full of teachers energetically contributed to a discussion "what is best classroom practise in education"? This was able led by David Jakes and Clarence Fisher
Best practice is a fluid, personal thing that changes amongst educators
• Innovative
• Something that has been researched and an intended outcome is good and we know that it will happen
• Fits context that we need
• Teacher needs to feel comfortable with it.
Some say there is no such thing that is best practice in most or all cont…

I can't tell you how disappointed I was when my Dr. told me my illness would not allow me to fly to Shanghai and join the conference. I had been planning for months, obtained my Visa, even bought surprises I had planned on sharing with
Jeff Utecht and other friends when I arrived.
Jenny Luca and I had even made plans to finish our planning for the Australian branch of the…

During Session 9 in Room MS405 Louise Johns and Paul McMahon will feature Softease, which are products used in many parts of the world, especially by K-6 students. They are very kid-friendly and fantastic to use. There are two great new additions to the product set. Podium is a tool that makes podcasting on the Windows platform as easy to use as Garage Band on the Mac. Honeycomb is a hosted wiki and blog solution that allows really young students all of the collaboration and sharing of web2.0 in…
