A Moment

http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/learn2cn/ I think these pictures tell the story better than I can. I always have this weird feeling when the conference is over. Part of me is so relieved that it's over and another part of me never wanted it to end. I was tired, running on pure adrenalin by the end of it but so excited to see educators learning together and from each other. On Thursday night I challenged the participants to walk away f… Continue

No Stage, Just Conversations

1. Before someone talks you into creating/organizing/hosting a conference make sure you're prepared for the work ahead. 2. Once you are prepared for the work, double the time you think it will take, multiple that by two, and then you might be close. 3. Always remember you are doing this to better education (or educators) or so you hope. ___________________ It's the day before the conference starts and big thanks to my Principal and ISB for giving me the wee… Continue

Conference Update and EduBloggerCon Shanghai

We had a great planning meeting last night looking at the latest numbers for the conference. Not a good sign when we have more presentations then people registered for the conference. :( I’m not to worried at this point, but then again I’m not the one in charge of the money. :) This is why there aren’t many educational conferences in September. The timing just isn’t good. Schools are just now really looking at finances for next year and many teachers are not sure what their PD funds will look l… Continue

Open Letter to Vendors

Dear Vendors, In September, 2007, the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (http://www.earcos.org) and the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (http://www.acamis.org) organized our first Learning 2.0 conference for 400+ international educators (http://learning2cn.ning.com). Our conference featured a number of prominent speakers from the educational community, including Alan November, Will Richardson, Wesley Fryer, Jamie McKenzie, and Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach.

Moving from Learning 1.0 to Learning 2.0

Does the hardware we use force us to change our teaching and learning styles?

At our school we've been installing LCDs in some of the classrooms. If you look through the window you can see the teacher has today's agenda being displayed. I saw this and just had to take the picture.

Step Up for Unconference sessions!

The part of the conference I'm looking forward to the most is the Unconference sessions.

What is an unconference you might ask. Well unconference.net defines it as:

unconference: The space between talking heads and a cocktail party with participant interaction around a theme or purpose.

Which is not a half bad definition of what to expect at an unconference. To me an unconference session is a conversation around a… Continue
