The Thinking Stick

Thoughts on conferences

So the first full day of NECC 2008 comes to an end and I find myself thinking more about conferences, how to create them, manage them, and make them relevant to participants then I thought I would. Have I mentioned the conference we’re doing in Shanghai? I’ve been thinking a lot about spaces and [...]

EdubloggerCon and my need for Beta Time

Back from EdubloggerCon for the day and taking a break in the hotel room, catching up on the latest NECC chatter and reflecting on the day. I was worried before I got here of two things: 1. That EdubloggerCon this year would be different, to big, to scripted, and not unconference enough for me.2. That the NECC [...]

Ready, Set, NECC!

Landed in San Antonio today around 1:30 from Seattle. Left at 5:15am….is it bad when a 5 hour flight seems short and you actually look forward to sleeping upright on the plane? We arrived with not air trouble, checked in and then drove back to the airport to pick up my sister-in-law. We only have 5 [...]

A conversation about the Learning 2.008 Conference

While visiting with Ken Caroll at the Praxis Language studios before I left Shanghai, Ken and I sat down and just started talking about the conference. The format, who was attending and just had a conversation around the idea of what we’re trying to do. A great 17 minute listen if you want/need more information about [...]

Shanghai: All over but the flight.

(Posted from Shanghai Pudong International Airport) Well that will do it from Shanghai. It has been an amazing three years living and working here. If you ever get a chance to visit, don’t miss it. Chinese people are great, I’ve really enjoyed living among them, getting to know their culture and watching them grow as a nation. Living [...]

Help spread the word about Learning 2.008!

Conference Update and EduBloggerCon Shanghai

We had a great planning meeting last night looking at the latest numbers for the conference. Not a good sign when we have more presentations then people registered for the conference. :( I’m not to worried at this point, but then again I’m not the one in charge of the money. :) This is why there aren’t many educational conferences in September. The timing just isn’t good. Schools are just now really looking at finances for next year and many teachers are not sure what their PD funds will look l… Continue

Open Letter to Vendors

Dear Vendors, In September, 2007, the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (http://www.earcos.org) and the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (http://www.acamis.org) organized our first Learning 2.0 conference for 400+ international educators (http://learning2cn.ning.com). Hi Jeff...okay I am very intimidated by the wonderful list of presenters...but i will go ahead and submit my measly presentation..from an experienced international teacher in a real live Turkish school....this has definitely worked with my kids in Izmir, Turkey...although I keep screaming every night about how I am losing my tech skillls!! Yikes...here it is...

The Digi-Kid Booktalk
Get children excited about books by using booktalks. Booktalks are not book reviews but short promos that tease the students into wanting to know more. Why not jazz up the booktalks by adding a technology component? During this workshop, learn how to make use of available technology to enhance integration for student success. From Podcasts to Powerpoint, from MovieMaker to Photostory, Julieanne Hanna, with way too many years of experience, will share ideas that will help you become the Digital-Savvy Booktalker.
hope this is okay..please do keep in touch...cheers..julieanne hanna

Hi Julie,

Our tech conference is for teachers. So "dumb downed" is great. and Early education is even better! On the front page of the conference site there is a link to submit a presentation. I suggest you fill out the form and submit it as soon as possible. They are accepting presentations as them come! We need more things at a basic level for teachers.

hi jeff! you don't know me...but i have followed your stuff since i was in taipei....just moved to izmir, turkey this year with my family and we are struggling, grappling, pounding our heads against the wall with tech integration.....is there any way i could do a workshop at the conference? when is the deadline for application for presenters...i am a tech novice compared to all of you, but i am doing the best i can with the limited hardware, software, everything we have here...i would love to do something for the younger years...early childhood...but i think it would probably be too'dumbed down' for your crew....any ideas???? i will try to coerce our school board to let our tech coordinator come with me....i plan to attend, even if i have to pay my own way....do you need 'workshops for the intermediate tech person' or is it just the gurus? thanks for listening....cheers..julie anne hanna
